Watch Strikeforce HERE:This Saturday, April 17th at 9 PM EST on CBS, Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Shields will air to a live TV audience with three belts on the line. On paper it is shaping up to be an excellent card as the main event features a living legend in the world of MMA in Dan Henderson. Hendo comes in as the challenger, going up against the Strikeforce middleweight champion, Jake Shields.
The Strikeforce betting odds for that fight are currently favoring the challenger, Dan Henderson, who is going off at (-450) while Jake Shields is getting a very lucrative (+325).
Saturday night also marks the US debut of Shinya Aoki, a Japanese submission superstar who will be attempting to dethrone Gilbert Melendez as the lightweight champion. This fight became much more important as BJ Penn has just be questionably dethroned as the UFC’s lightweight champ, which means the winner of this bout will likely be the top dog in this division in the world. The oddsmakers had a tough time setting a line for this one as these two fighters have such contrasting styles. Currently, the Strikeforce betting line is Shinya Aoki (+125) and Gilber Melendez (-155).The third title fight of the night is a matchup of one of the most talented strikers in MMA right now, and the light heavyweight champ, Gegard Mousasi and rising star Muhammad ‘King Mo’ Lawal.
There are several MMA pundits saying that Lawal doesn’t have the experience to go against a guy like Mousasi, and in a way they might be right, but he is one of their brightest young stars and this will be an excellent challenge for the young wrestling star.
In a way it reminds me of the GSP vs. Matt Hughes fight as St. Pierre came in as a very promising young fighter but wasn’t mentally ready and lost the fight. As I predicted in the Lawal vs. Mousasi fight, I believe that Lawal has a chance to win a round based on his excellent wrestling ability, but he’ll likely get caught and be finished rather quickly.
That is yet to be seen and you can put your money down on which ever guy you think is going to walk away with the light heavyweight belt. Currently the Strikeforce UFC Betting Line for this fight is Muhammed Lawal (+180) and (-225) for the champ, Gegard Mousasi.
It’s not often you get to watch three title fights in one night, and either way you go this is going to be a great night of action, so get your bets down and have that popcorn ready!
